description

In October 1997, Mitsubishi introduced the radical 'Pajero Evolution' in order to homologate their Paris-Dakar entry of the same year. Standard fitment was a 3.5-litre, 24 valve DOHC V6 engine which featured their very advanced MIVEC system (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and Electronic lift Control). A new dual-plenum variable intake further improved both bhp and torque throughout the power range and an enhanced suspension with high-tech dampers improved both ride and handling.

This very special Evolution, chassis number V554401341 was purchased from Mitsubishi by Ralli Art with a view to it being built into a T1/T2 Rally Specification vehicle, eligible for the aforementioned Dakar Rally, and many thousands of pounds were invested in building this car for its client Matador Tyres. These EVOs were the most successful in their series and D-OR1010 took part in many Rallies (including the Dakar) and comes with its original Passport showing scrutineers remarks, dates and stamps etc, confirming that this Evo has seen some serious action. The car found its way from Matador Germany over to Matador Wales with a view to being used for promotional work and also to take part in the British Off Road Championship, however, it became sidelined for a period before finding its way into the current owner's hands. D-OR1010 was then returned to its original Ralli Art Red and re-commissioned back to its prime off-road status, however, the latest owner had changed his plans and was not going to use the car for competition and so it's now ready for a new owner to pick up the reins. A number of documents will accompany the car including the Scrutineer's Forms showing events entered, invoices, the original build sheets and wiring diagrams. The car comes with a number of replacement parts including wishbones, cv joints, and driveshafts which are the bits most likely to be damaged during off-road competition.

This represents a rare opportunity to buy a piece of off-road racing history with a decent pedigree, and it does make an amazing noise.
